The Democratic Left Alliance’s candidate, who has just announced her programme ahead of the May ballot, is drawing considerable controversy across political aisles and among commentators alike.

"It takes a lot of courage, if not a suicidal streak, to function in politics as a completely unrecognisable figure,” says spokesperson for Your Movement Andrzej Rozenek.

Meanwhile, according to a poll carried out by the Institute for Market and Social Research, it is the Democratic Left Alliance that has seen the biggest rise in support among all other parties. The SLD has gained over 4 percentage points over the past month, now reaching 10 percent, outpacing junior coalition partner the Polish Peasants’ Party.
