  • EU extends Russia sanctions
At an emergency meeting in Brussels, Thursday, EU foreign ministers decided to extend sanctions against Russia in the wake of a rocket attack on the Ukrainian city of Mariupol.

As John Beauchamp reports, despite concerns that Greece would not play ball and tow the EU line on tightening sanctions on Russia, solidarity among the bloc was kept intact as a whole package of sanctions was extended with more now in the pipeline.

Following the meeting, Polish Foreign Minister Grzegorz Schetyna was pleased with the outcome, saying “Despite our differences and the first visit of Greece’s new foreign minister, we managed to achieve consensus and this shows how important it is to be able to work together.”
