'Mardani' stars Rani Mukerji in the lead role and tells the story of a female cop whose interest in the case of a kidnapped teenage girl leads her to uncover secrets of human trafficking by the Indian mafia.

For her role, Rani Mukerji reportedly trained in Krav Maga, a street-fighting, self-defence system developed for the Israeli military. The film has already been dubbed by many critics as an example of "New Bollywood".

"I think it's high time that actors make a film which raises certain important issues because it's all very well to sing and dance, do romantic dramas or action films but at some point every actor is responsible to do more," Ms. Mukerji told our reporter Danuta Isler following the press screening in Warsaw.
