As John Beauchamp reports, in recent days Polish Foreign Minister Grzegorz Schetyna has held consultations with two of his opposite numbers from other EU member states: Germany and the UK.

The meetings come ahead of an informal summit of foreign ministers in the Latvian capital of Riga which kicks off on Friday and which is to look at the ongoing situation in the EU’s eastern neighbourhood.

First on Foreign Minister Grzegorz Schetyna’s agenda was a whistle-stop tour of Berlin, where he met with his German opposite number Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Here, the need for EU solidarity when it comes to reforms for Ukraine.

“If we in Europe have managed to agree on taking a decision on extending sanctions, then we want Europe to be in agreement on one single stance on support for Ukrainian reforms,” Schetyna said in Berlin, Thursday.

Meanwhile, on Friday, Schetyna met with UK Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond, who maintained that the Minsk Agreement “is the only tool that we currently have for settling this dispute”.
