On Sunday some 3,000 people gathered on the streets of Warsaw, alongside other cities, to rally for the rights of women as gender equality lags behind in multiple spheres of life in Poland, and beyond.

As Alicja Baczyńska reports, the annual march marking International Women’s Day this year was held under the slogan “We are all at home”.

Although women in Poland still have a lot to battle for, economists point to prospects for an improvement in their situation in the labour market. As Tomasz Misiak, head of the supervisory board of company Work Service underscores, the rate of employers eyeing pay rises has grown decisively in recent months.

“The number of employers planning pay rises has risen from 5 percent last year to nearly 20 percent this year. This is a fivefold increase,” he says.
