To some it’s recreation and tradition, to others – pure violence. As parliamentarians are working on amending the hunting act, activists call them out on ignoring their list of demands benefitting children, animals and the environment.

As Alicja Baczyńska reports, one of the key proposals issued by NGOs was to prohibit the participation of children in hunting.

“Exposure to the killing or the agony of the animal, the pursuit with the intent to kill, and finishing it off are all a difficult sight to bear even for adults, not to mention children,” says Marta Skierkowska from the Nobody’s Children Foundation. “This way they become used to the act of killing, and in time desensitised to it.”

The subcommittee, meanwhile, suggests that children should not be banned from hunting, but should rather look away when the shot is fired and the animal is killed.
