As Alicja Baczyńska reports, the draft legislation, signed by the head of state last Friday, aims to crack down on the visual cacophony of commercial messages so far flourishing amid patchy law. The prospective regulations stipulate high fines for the illegal placement of ads, billboards and building wraps alongside swift legal measures taken against offenders.

“We should cater to the aesthetic values and spatial order, which is why I am happy that new legislation is being enforced,” says President Komorowski. “Many Poles had been anticipating it.”

As statistics show, over 70 percent of Poles want to see the happy-go-lucky streak of outdoor advertising come to an end after an over two-decade reign.
