  • Poland to cash in on graphene production?
Graphene has been already called an new miracle in the material world, and its potential may be also a great chance for Poland.

Polish scientists from the Institute of Electronic Materials Technology have developed a method of producing large sheets of graphene that is characterised by excellent quality. Agnieszka Łaszczuk reports if Poland has a chance to make graphene a speciality.

Graphene is a thin, single layer of carbon atoms forming a hexagonal honeycomb pattern. This material of the future is stronger than steel, and yet incredibly flexible. With such properties, graphene has enormous potential, however, scientists are still looking for commercial uses for it.

“This is a beautiful material […]. It could be a promise of very fast electronics […] But we have to find a real application,” explains Prof. Andrzej Wysmołek from the Physics Faculty of Warsaw University.

Recently, the Polish method of producing graphene was granted a patent in the United States.

“Patents not only enable you to prevent others from commercially using your invention, with patent protection you can also strengthen your position on the market, ” says Adam Andrzejewski, PhD, attorney-at-law working for the DLA Piper law firm in Warsaw.
