The historic oak Bolko, named after King Boleslaus the Good who is said to have rested under it in the year 1018, has been crowned Tree of the Year 2015 in a plebiscite run by the Klub Gaja ecological organisation.

Bolko stands in Hniszów in the Lublin voivodship. It beat such iconic trees as the pine on the peak of Sokolnica in the Pieniny mountains and 15 other finalists selected from more than a hundred entries. Elżbieta Krajewska has more.
