Drought-hit farmers to receive aid

PLN 488 million will be allocated – as Agriculture Minister Marek Sawicki informed - PLN 450 million directly in aid, and the remainder for seed material among others.

The worst affected are potatoes, bush fruit, fruit trees, hops, tobacco, root vegetables, sweetcorn and sugar beet – one million hectares in all and some 100,000 farms.

A meeting of EU Agriculture Ministers is scheduled in Brussels for 7 September, while the full extent of the damage will be known by the end of the month, after all area reports are submitted.
