As Sławek Szefs reports, the event aimed at describing possible directions of Union development in the face of what may seem as an endless string of crisis situations.

“We are Europeans, gifted for the art of squaring the circle and we can each time take out some of the weaknesses in the system but not all of them,” said one of the invited participants Luuk van Middelaar, a Dutch historian and political philosopher.

“Some tensions are bound to remain because they are what make us,” added the former advisor to European Council president Herman van Rompuy.
