Poland is perhaps not the first place that comes to mind when it comes to innovation, with the level still still much lower than in Western economies.

Experts agree that if the country wants to be a modern economy it needs to champion cutting edge solutions in science and resarch projects.

The recently passed innovation law stipulates, among other things, that there is a two-year tax relief for those who invest in original, ground-breaking solutions and products.

Michał Owczarek talks to a creator of a social robot to find out what sort of innovation support is available for Polish academics.

We received no support from any Polish public institution,” says Krzysztof Tchoń, head of the chair of Cybernetics and Robotics of Wrocław Univerity of Technology, noting that the robot was ordered by Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh.
