The enduring fascination of the Treasure of Środa Śląska
While the fabled Nazi gold train supposedly located in Lower Silesia has been making imaginations run wild, it wouldn't be the first time that a mysterious treasure of gold has been found in this area of south-western Poland.
The one which caused a local gold rush in 1980s Poland included a bucketful of gold and silver coins, and umpteen pieces of exquisite regal jewellery, fragments of which have only recently been recovered and restored.
Elżbieta Krajewska spoke to curator Jacek Witecki about the Treasure of Środa Śląska now to be seen at the National Museum in Wrocław.
