Polish documentary shortlisted for an Academy Award
Michał Szcześniak’s ‘Starting point’ is among the ten films running for an Oscar in the “documentary short subject” category.
In an interview for Radio Poland, the director introduces the protagonist of the film, Aneta, a young woman serving her ninth year in prison.
“Each day she is released for a couple of hours to an old people’s home where she meets an old lady, Miss Hela, unable to leave her bed since early childhood. Young and beautiful, Aneta is pessimistic because she had everything in her life and ruined that, whereas Miss Hela is cheerful and totally optimistic.”
