It is something of a trip down memory lane of the BBC journalist Dan Cruickshank, who spent two and a half years in Warsaw as a small boy.

In an exclusive interview for Radio Poland, he talks about his impressions of Warsaw on his first visit after fifty seven years: “Much was familiar to me, the people, the life, the texture; much was very strange and surprising; gradually, as I walked making this programme, details triggered my memory, often funny things, not relevant, such as the tram lines and the smells of life […] then I went deeper down and it was clear to me that my two-and-a-half-years in Warsaw defined my life; living in this city, with people who’d undergone the most terrible suffering and yet found a future, rebuilding their city almost from scratch, that has haunted me.”
