Retail tax plan under fire from EC and Polish shop owners
The European Commission has voiced sharp criticism of the Polish government’s plans for a progressive retail tax, adding to friction between the EU and Poland’s new eurosceptic Cabinet.

As Michał Owczarek reports, several thousand small and medium entrepreneurs associated with the Leviathan trade network were protesting against the tax on Thursday. They say the planned law threatens them with bankruptcy.
“This is a battle for Polish commerce and we want the planned tax to impact hypermarkets, not Polish shops,” one protester said.
