Many historians claim that breaking the codes of the Enigma cyphering machine, used by the Nazi German military, had advanced the end of World War Two by at least two years.

German messages encrypted on the original Enigma were first broken by three Polish mathematicians working for Polish military intelligence: Marian Rejewski, Jerzy Różycki and Henryk Zygalski.

They were all pre-war graduates of Poznań University. It should not be surprising, therefore, that it is the city of Poznań, the capital of the midwestern Wielkopolska region, which has come out with the initiative to open a museum dedicated to the legendary Enigma machine.
