Poland backs Marek Belka for EBRD post
Outgoing central bank governor Marek Belka is Poland's official candidate for the top post at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

As Sławek Szefs reports, Warsaw hopes that this tried and tested Polish financial expert stands a good chance of becoming the EBRD’s next president - but there remains much effort to be invested in furthering Prof. Belka’s candidacy.
"It must be kept in mind that the present head of the EBRD [Sir Suma Chakrabarti] is concluding his first term and he definitely has an appetite to stay in the chair for another,” says Jan Krzysztof Bielecki, a former Polish PM and later a director at EBRD in London, who also vied for the top post four years ago.
