  • Poland's UNESCO-listed forest is making headlines
On Thursday, a group of Greenpeace activists left the Environment Ministry's building, ending their protest action against an extensive logging program in the Białowieża forest, launched in March by the Polish Environment Ministry.

Greenpeace is now calling for a plan to be implemented along the lines of one put forward by the late President Lech Kaczyński.

Their appeals to extend the Białowieża National Park to include the whole of the Białowieża Forest (excluding the parts in Belarus) nevertheless remain unheard, as the environment minister, Jan Szyszko, repeatedly cites a spruce bark beetle infestation as the reason behind the logging program.

Agnieszka Łaszczuk spoke to Robert Cyglicki, the head of Greenpeace in Poland, about why the Białowieża Forest needs adequate environmental protection.
