The court's ruling will be a key factor influencing the decision of the International Olympic Committee, which will gather to discuss the issue on Sunday.

The case is being widely discussed in the Polish media, with some experts claiming that a decision to ban the Russian athletes would negatively influence the Olympic Games.

Andrzej Person, a Polish sports commentator said: “World athletics is in crisis. We have to face the truth, the Olympic games without Russian athletes will be disappointing.”

Yelena Isinbayeva, the Russian two-time Olympic pole vault champion, has called the court’s decision a "funeral for athletics" and a "blatant political order".
