Some people, from cities such as Szczecin and Białystok, cover more than 500 kilometres.

They will be marching every day, braving all weather conditions. In some nine or 10 days, depending on the group, the will reach the Jasna Góra Monastery in Częstochowa.

The first to start from Warsaw was the Academic Pilgrimage of students and lecturers, which set off from St. Anna’s Academic Church in Warsaw.

The over 3,000 pilgrims are divided into 18 groups and will be covering a distance of 300 kilometres to reach Częstochowa on 14 August, a day before the Feast of the Assumption.

“On their way to Częstochowa they will be giving thanks for the 1,050th anniversary of the Baptism of Poland and the recent visit of Pope Francis for World Youth Day in Kraków,” says Father Jacek Siekierski, the rector of the academic church and the guide of the pilgrimage.
