Wagner’s “Tristan and Isolde”, staged last June at Warsaw’s National Opera in a production designed by Boris Kudlicka, on Monday opens a new season at the Metropolitan Opera in New York.

The production is by the company’s well known artistic director, Mariusz Treliński.

Interviewed for Radio Poland, Kudlicka, who has already worked at the Met, says: “We are very proud that we will be part of the opening ceremony on 26 September which is a huge social and cultural event…

“When you enter [the Met], you’re not excited that you are there. You have a huge amount of work to do and you immediately focus on how to bring the show to the stage in very tricky and difficult schedules, with a huge technical and production team. Excitement comes after the opening night.”
