PM Beata Szydło and Defence Minister Antoni Macierewicz on Tuesday paid a visit to the Military Aviation Works No.1 in Łódź, the Polish plant that was to be central to a deal with France's Airbus for multipurpose helicopters.

The visit followed a tour on Monday of PZL Mielec (Lockheed Martin) and PZL Świdnik (Leonardo) that came on the heels of the government's decision to end negotiations with France on a contract for 50 Caracal helicopters for the Polish army.

As Szydło said, big money on military equipment should be spent on contracts with domestic arms companies, and PZL Świdnik had a wise policy in Poland, developing a company that employed several thousand people in this country and paying taxes here.

"This is how we understand economic patriotism," she said.
