Interviewed for Radio Poland, competition spokesman Aleksander Laskowski said he hoped the event, in the western Polish city of Poznań, would produce another rising star.
Past prizewinners of the Wieniawski competition include Ginette Neveu, David Oistrakh, Ida Haendel, Grażyna Bacewicz, Bartlomiej Nizioł and Agata Szymczewska.
