While the situation is still not good, it is nonetheless improving. The number of children who are active for a minimum one hour daily is on the increase – four percentage points in comparison to 2010.

However, this is only 25 percentage of the population of Polish children and youth who do have adequate exercise.

The conclusions of a debate held recently at the University of Physical Education in Warsaw, dedicated to contemporary challenges of physical education were not optimistic.

Janusz Dobosz, who led the last phase of research says that soon the physical condition of 60 percent of Polish children and youngsters may be low or very low: “Body mass is not growing proportionally to height and we are seeing with it the problem of surplus weight and obesity in children. [As regards] physical fitness of children and youth and we are observing continued deterioration, often to a level much below results shown by youth in 1979”.
