Meanwhile, the Central Statistical Office (GUS) released data showing that 8.5 percent of Poles devote their time and energy to working for charities and non-governmental organisations.
“Polish men and women most often become involved in voluntary work in various foundations and associations. Religious organisations are also popular,” said Karolina Goś-Wójcicka from GUS.
Meanwhile, a conference devoted to voluntary work in cultural institutions was opened in Warsaw, the first event of its kind ever organised.
Marta Kukowska, from the Warsaw-based Centre for the Thought of John Paul II, said that “more than one hundred people from over a hundred institutions,” representing both small and big organisations are expected to attend the “Volunteering in Culture” conference.
