Polish students have received above average marks in a Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) test.

The results for the 2015 PISA test show Polish youngsters did well, but not as well as in the previous edition in 2012.

As Jacek Haman from the Educational Research Institute said: “Generally, those countries with high scores dropped this year, those which had low scores went up. So we might say that we were in good company."

"Why does this happen? A difficult question and no quick answer. The first suspicion is a change of method,” he said.

Poland's Education Ministry is not satisfied.

“The trend is positive, we have results above average out of the countries tested but it's difficult to consider the dropping score a success,” says Deputy Education Minister Maciej Kopeć.

The Programme for International Student Assessment is a triennial international survey first held in 2000 to test the skills and knowledge of 15-year-old students.
