  • Polish investment in Iran a year since sanctions lifted
A year after the process of lifting economic sanctions on Iran began, Radio Poland looks at how successful Iran has been in attracting Polish business.

Sanctions were lifted after a UN agency certified that the Islamic Republic had complied with a deal reached with the US and European countries to curtail its nuclear program.

The move freed Iran to sell much more oil and gain control of the roughly USD 100 billion (PLN 412 billion) in impounded money, ending a prolonged isolation that drove the country into a deep economic malaise.

Poland was among the first countries to approach Iran once the process of lifting international sanctions started on 16 January, 2016.

Soon after, the Iranian ambassador in Warsaw, H. E. Ramin Mehmanparast, told Radio Poland that Iran needed everything, from hundreds of planes to new ports to update its infrastructure - and this was where Poland came in.

To what extent has Iran managed to lure Polish businesses in the past 12 months? Danuta Isler put the question to Jacek Sosnowski, the chairman of the Polish-Iranian Business Council in Warsaw.
