The future of NATO and its relations with Russia, as well as the Syrian and Ukrainian conflicts, were high on the agenda at the three-day international Munich Security Conference.

However, the dominant issue this year was US-Europe relations following the victory of Donald Trump in America’s presidential elections.

NATO allies had an opportunity to weigh up the new Trump administration.

US Vice-President Mike Pence delivered a message in Munich from the new US president: “Today on behalf of President Trump I bring you this assurance: the United States of America strongly supports NATO and will be unwavering in our commitment to this transatlantic alliance.”
