Though there are close to five million of them dispersed all over the world, they often seem to be a forgotten diaspora.

Masses of Palestinian refugees fled their homes after the 1948 creation of the state of Israel and later in the wake of the Six-Day War in 1967.

Most of them live in different countries in the Middle East, but because some Palestinians moved to war-torn Syria, they had to leave their homes for a second or even a third time.

Our correspondent Wojciech Cegielski spoke to Pierre Krähenbühl, Commissioner General for UNRWA, a UN agency that helps Palestinian refugees.
