Sławek Szefs reports that the force is part of four such Alliance groups to be deployed in Poland and the Baltic states in accordance with decisions taken at the 2016 NATO summit in Warsaw.

In majority, the battalion comprises US soldiers but there are also the British, Romanians and Croatians.

“Having multinational Allies working together to create an Enhanced Forward Presence is a visible demonstration of the Alliance’s commitment to Article Five of the Washington Treaty which enshrines the principle that an attack against one is an attack against all,” said General Curtis Scaparrotti, Supreme Allied Commander Europe, who attended the welcoming ceremony in Orzysz, on Thursday.
