Sławek Szefs reports that these stem chiefly from the presence of a large community of Poles residing in the UK.

Warsaw also wants London to remain fairly close to Europe after leaving the EU.

“It hopes to retain present elements of economic, trade, political and defense cooperation, so that Brexit does not bring about any unwanted, non-proportionate or negative consequences in bilateral relations,” Konrad Szymański, Poland's deputy foreign minister for European affairs, told Polish Radio on the eve of the Brussels summit of 27 EU leaders which is to approve guidelines for the Union's Brexit negotiations with the UK.
