The European Commission on Wednesday announced two decisions: to step up both migrant and rule-of-law procedures against Poland.

The commission warned Poland that its voting rights in EU-decision making could be revoked in response to far-reaching judicial reforms after the conservative government passed bills which would have given elected officials significant powers to appoint - and dismiss - court justices.

The commission also maintained its legal case against Warsaw over its refusal to accept migrants under an EU plan to ease pressure on Italy and Greece in the European migrant crisis of 2015.

Michał Owczarek reports.

“The Polish Constitution clearly states that the judicial system and its structuring falls within internal prerogatives of our state. Thus we are going to use our competence and our democratic mandate hereupon, not yielding to any sort of pressure, intimidation or threats,” said Polish Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro.
