During Tuesday’s ceremonies in Warsaw on Polish Armed Forces Day, President Duda awarded the US general with the Commander's Cross with Star of the Order of Merit.

Hodges was one of the main officers overseeing this year’s deployment of NATO troops to the alliance’s eastern flank.

Polish Radio’s Wojciech Cegielski spoke to General Hodges just after the award ceremony.

General Hodges served on missions in Iraq and Afghanistan. He has been Commander of United States Army Europe since November 2014.
