The international forum, said to be the largest of its kind in Central and Eastern Europe, runs from Tuesday to Thursday.

Among the issues under debate at this year's forum are economic growth in the European Union and the role of the state in building an innovative economy.

Polish President Andrzej Duda, during a conference entitled Aspirations of European Countries, said that "it is important to add new cultural and economic values to the European Union to increase its economic potential, its export capacities".

Duda stressed Poland's support for accepting new member states into the EU.

"The more people and the more area belongs to the European Union... the bigger the EU's chances to compete with other global economic powers," Duda added.
