Sławek Szefs reports that, during a meeting of the European Parliament's Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs, differences in opinion ranged from representatives of Poland's ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party's sharp criticism of the European Commission, to support for the commission's announced actions, voiced by deputies affiliated with the Civic Platform (PO) party, presently the major opposition force in Polish parliament.

"A government which does not understand the problem and refrains from a constructive dialogue with the Commission is actually acting against the interests of 84 percent of [Polish] citizen an who feel affiliation with the European Union,” said MEP Barbara Kudrycka from the Civic Platform.

But PiS MEP Jadwiga Wiśniewska said: “Polish affairs are decided in Poland, by Poles and this is how democracy works,” adding that a ruling majority has the right to implement the program which it presented during the election campaign.
