Poland, EU at loggerheads over forest
Poland could face fines of EUR 100,000 a day if it fails to comply with a ban on logging in the primaeval Białowieża forest, the European Court of Justice has said.

Warsaw maintains that logging is necessary to ensure safety in the UNESCO World Heritage-listed forest in Poland's northeast that provides habitats for the European bison and a variety of bird species.
“We received the court’s decision, a 27-page document, last evening,” Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski said on Tuesday. “We are now reviewing it provisionally to be able to report to the prime minister this afternoon at the Cabinet meeting.”
