Sławek Szefs reports that the gathering on Thursday was also an opportunity to present Poland's foreign policy tenets for the coming year.

The European Union and its future figured prominently in Duda's address.

"Europe is and should be strong with the will of its nations, whereas the community institutions should serve that will,” the president told the foreign diplomats. “If we reverse that hierarchy and place institutions above nations, we will distort the right order of things.”
