  • Warsaw remembers WWII operation "Kutschera"
Exactly 74 years ago, Poland's underground Home Army (AK) carried out operation "Kutschera", executing Franz Kutschera, a high-ranking Austrian Nazi official, SS-Brigadeführer and member of the German security services, in then German-occupied Warsaw.

Jan Józef Kasprzyk, the head of the Office for War Veterans and Victims of Oppression, said that "Franz Kutschera was personally responsible for signing close to 1,800 death sentences on Poles and Jews, although some historians estimate the number was much higher."

"Operation 'Kutschera' has become a symbol of the Polish nation's resistance, strength, and rebellion in face of the country's loss of independence," he added.
