It is the first such Polish centre in Sudan and the first such foreign unit in this country.

Iwona Zych, deputy head of the Polish Mediterranean Archaeology Centre in Warsaw, talks to Elżbieta Krajewska about the importance of having such a place in an area which has seen 60 years of Polish archaeological missions and major discoveries such as the frescoes in Faras.
