The event, the 16th of its kind, opened with a tribute to late director Krzysztof Krauze with the screening of Birds Are Singing in Kigali, a film he made his wife Joanna Kos Krauze and which tackles the subject of genocide in Rwanda.

The vast festival programme includes films by Polish women directors, Polish Jewish cinema and a retrospective of cinema classics.

Agnieszka Bielawska spoke on the line to Marlena Łukasiak, head of Film and Theatre at the Polish Cultural Institute in London, the organiser of the event.
