New deadline for rule of law compromise
The deputy head of the European Commission on Monday said the EU executive would not withdraw its punitive Article 7 procedure against Poland at this stage.

The statement ended earlier speculations that Brussels and Warsaw could reach an agreement in the rule-of rule-of-law by the end of May.
“A way out of this spat is only possible when both sides take steps; and I’m personally not aware of the European Commission’s readiness to take any significant steps on this issue,” said Poland's Deputy Foreign Minister Konrad Szymański.
