Edward Dwurnik, iconic Polish painter dies aged 75
A key figure in Polish contemporary art, Edward Dwurnik died in Warsaw on Sunday at the age of 75. He was a prolific artist who left behind a legacy of some 5,000 paintings, as well as tens of thousands of drawings and prints in a variety of techniques.

He has been called the portraitist of Poland for documenting decades of transformations in his instantly-recognizable detailed style; he was also one of a few artists from behind the Iron Curtain who scored international success even before the collapse of communism in 1989.
