On Tuesday evening, a concert was due to be held at the National Philharmonic in Warsaw to celebrate Ignacy Jan Paderewski, a pianist and statesman who was a key figure in Poland recovering its independence in 1918.
The concert, conducted by Marzena Diakun, was a tribute to Paderewski 158 years after he was born on November 6, 1860.
Diakun is also expected to conduct an upcoming concert in Paris that will showcase music by composers Grażyna Bacewicz and Elżbieta Sikora while celebrating Polish independence.
