Debates in the European Parliament coincide with a signature-collecting campaign for an appeal to ban all unconventional gas extraction in EU countries.

Poland, with the biggest expected shale gas deposits in Europe, is strongly opposed to such ideas. Last week the Polish Gas and Oil Mining Company (PGNiG) launched a campaign under the motto "The Flame of Hope" which is to propagate the benefits of shale gas application. Signautres are also collected under a petition to the European Parliament not to undertake actions aimed at hampering the exploitation of this type of gas resources.
