A British musicologist and a Polish film director talk about Karol Szymanowski
In the early 20th century, when Poland was a country under foreign rule and a cultural backwater, Szymanowski gave Polish music a new lease of life and brought it into the mainstream of European trends.
Jim Samson published a study on Szymanowski in 1980. Krzysztof Zanussi took time off from filmmaking now and again to produce Szymanowski’s opera ‘King Roger’ with foreign companies.
