With a highly controversial front page headline, GAZETA WYBORCZA reminds us that today is World Mental Health Day .

World Freak Day Today - alluding to a 2002 movie Dzien Swira (Day of the Freak) by director Marek Koterski - headlines the daily adding that latest statistics show that eleven Poles commit suicide everyday.

How can we prevent these unnecessary deaths, asks the newspaper?

It is vital to raise awareness of mental illness in Poland and the brutal headline indicates a lack of seriousness taken in Poland about this issue.

WHO statistics show that 350 million people in the world suffer from depression, every fourth adult Pole had experienced some kind of mental disturbances, the most common resulted from abuse of alcohol, over 2 million admitted to serious state of anxiety and over a million suffered from depression.

RZECZPOSPOLITA reports that huge supermarkets greatly contribute to Polish exports, mainly foodstuffs but also cosmetics and chemical articles. In 2011 giants like Lidl or Tesco have increased Polish exports by some 40 percent , which is impressive comments the daily. Polish producers are conquering markets in central and eastern Europe but also in the UK and the major hit are Polish made foodstuffs ranging from a variety of smoked sausages, through dairy to sweets and fruit preserves. The demand for Polish foodstuffs points to the high quality of the products and it is estimated that through the supermarket exports the foreign markets will purchase products from Poland for over 14 billion euro this year.

RZECZPOSPOLITA adds however that there is a flaw in the impressive operation –the promotion. Huge chains sell the products under their own label and thus the foreign recipient is rarely aware that what he purchases is made in Poland.

Police stations resemble the darkest corners of slums declares the Highest Auditing Chamber. The buildings are crumbling, while the interiors leave a lot to be desired both in terms of sanitary conditions as well as safety. DZIENNIK GAZETA PRAWNA writes that the Interior Ministry is introducing joint standards to be in force in all police stations in the country. That would mean huge renovation works in the majority of the existing stations , which in turn spells huge outlays, writes the daily .

And here is where the vicious circle closes since there is no money for the police- at least not for major overhauls of the buildings and interiors . The Auditing Chamber control adds the daily also discovered another problem to be dealt with. The cellars and repositories of police stations are full of all kinds of material evidence. The Interior Ministry has to come up with a solution of what to do with that problem.
