"We managed to keep a funding mechanism that provides an opportunity for an in-depth modernization of the armed forces," President Komorowski told journalists, Wednesday.

He added that the priority for Poland's armed forces is the defence of Poland and not foreign missions.

“We will pursue a strategy of building the Polish armed forces in terms of increasing its capacity to defend our own territory, but also fulfilling our obligations in keeping with NATO plans that affect Poland," he said, adding that the country already spends around 1.95 percent of GDP on defence expenditure.

The main topics on the agenda of the military review was the planned 2014 withdrawal from Afghanistan, where Poland has over 2,000 troops stationed in the Ghazni province, and modernization. (pg)
