29 die from drowning over weekend

Polish police say that 29 people died over the weekend in the middle of a heatwave sweeping central Europe.

“Over the weekend 29 people drowned. The most tragic was Sunday, during which 19people lost their lives,” police spokesman Inspector Piotr Bieniak told Polish Radio.
He added the main causes of the deaths were “bravado and alcohol”.
The death toll from drowning across the country this month has now reached 114.
Poland is currently experiencing a heatwave with temperatures reaching 36 degrees in Warsaw: next week forecasters say thermometers could climb to 38 degrees Celsius in the capital. (pg)
