The charity action, now in its 22nd edition and led by radio personality Jerzy Owsiak, is raising money this year for pediatric and geriatric care, and also includes events taking place in Paris, Vienna, Brussels, Madrid and Chicago.

Last year, the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity collected over 50 million zloty (12 million euros) via street collections and celebrity auctions.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk will be auctioning a signed Arsenal shirt by striker Robin van Persie, given to him by Britain's prime minister David Cameron.

Concerts and fun runs are also taking place nationwide in support of the charity action.

You can donate to the charity appeal at the orchestra's web site. (pg)
